A flush door consists of a light timber frame covered on both sides with some form of sheet material. A core may be used to increase the rigidity of the two panels - called facing or skins and to keep them apart. The frame is made from quite small sections of timber, usually 38 x 38mm, and is butt jointed and fastened together with glue and corrugated fasteners or staples.
Antique doors and doorways are comprised of several different parts. There may be a decorative crown, which is a piece of molding used to decorate the top edge of the door frame. Casing is the wooden structure upon which the door hinges are attached. Salvage doors may or may not include glazing, which are glass pieces inserted into the door, as well as panels, which are wooden indentations in the door. Many doors are made of wood, and the wood is made of composite or veneered wood materials to make it large enough for the doorway opening. Glazing may also be used above and on either side of the doorway as well, because the glass lets light into the interior of the home.
Besides its strength, and resistance to sundry wood borer insects, oak has got rich and beautiful grain markings that make it aesthetically appealing to users. This aesthetic appeal is what makes oak interior doors the popular choice of lots of people. To get vivid grain markings, oak has to be sawn in a direction at right angles, or vertical, to the direction of the tree's growth rings. Any wood thus sawn is known as quarter-sawn wood. Oak wood thus sawn will have intricate grain markings and a rich finish and this is what makes oak most suited for oak interior doors.
Designers today often find the look of two separate blinds more appealing and functional. One blind can be opened for entry and exit while the other remains closed.
